The Channelview ISD Athletic Department has a long and proud tradition of producing student-athletes who not only excel on the field or court, but also in the classroom. Every year, many of our students have received scholarships in their chosen sports - while giving them an opportunity to pursue their course of study. We are proud to say that many of our former athletes have come “home” to Channelview ISD where they have started their teaching / coaching careers.

Some of our athletes have also played in the professional ranks. Jalen Hurts, a 2016 CHS graduate is currently a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnny Knox, 2005 graduate, was drafted as a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears in 2009. Brandon Jennings played for the LA Raiders in 2000. In addition to top-notch football players, Channelview HS also produced exceptional baseball talent. Glenn Wilson, 1977 graduate, was an all-star outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros. Chris Sampson, 1996 graduate, pitched for the Houston Astros from 2006-2010 and ended his career with the Florida Marlins in 2011. Channelview High School had 2 graduates enter the MLB draft in consecutive years. Aaron Miller, class of 2006, was a first-round draft pick for the LA Dodgers in 2009 and in 2010; the Cleveland Indians drafted Diego Seastrunk, also from class of 2006.

Channelview HS also has professionals on the “other side of the ball”. Walt Anderson (#66) was an official in the National Football League from 1996 until 2020 when he moved up in the ranks of the NFL as a senior vice president. David Brady, a 1983 graduate, has been the “voice” for many professional sports but is best known in our area as the “NRG Stadium Game Day Announcer for the Houston Texans”. He has been the game day announcer for the home games since 2006.
