January 23, 2025–The Channelview ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Mr. Damion Hopkins as the district’s new Athletic Director.

With over 20 years of experience in developing and leading successful athletic programs, Mr. Hopkins brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a passion for fostering athletic and academic excellence.

As the former Athletic Director for Royal Independent School District, a growing Region 4 district, Mr. Hopkins played a pivotal role in building a foundation for athletic achievement. Under his leadership, teams achieved multiple all-district championships while he cultivated a culture of integrity, discipline, and student success. His extensive experience includes managing athletic programs, overseeing department budgets, creating facility usage schedules, and implementing robust safety measures—all while ensuring compliance with state and UIL regulations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Hopkins to Channelview ISD. His dedication to fostering a culture of excellence, both on and off the field, aligns perfectly with our mission to empower students to achieve their full potential, said Superintendent Dr. Tory C. Hill. “We are confident that his leadership will elevate our athletic programs to new heights.”

Mr. Hopkins is a dedicated education professional with a strong background in administration and sports leadership. His academic credentials include: Master’s in Education Administration and a Principal Certification from the University of Houston, Master’s in Sports Administration from the University of Houston, and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with an Athletic Training specialization and a minor in Health, also from the University of Houston. He also holds the prestigious Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) designation from both the National Institute of Athletic Administrators Association and the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association.

Before his time at Royal ISD, Mr. Hopkins held numerous leadership positions, including Associate Principal, Assistant Athletic Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and Head Girls Basketball Coach.

Mr. Hopkins is equally excited to join the Channelview ISD community. "I am honored to become a part of this district and look forward to working with our students, staff, and families to create opportunities for success," said Hopkins. "Together, we can achieve great things for the Channelview community."
