On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Channelview ISD MasterMinds After School Program was recognized as a nominee for Innovative Practices Champion at the annual Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) CASE 25th Annual End of Year Celebration at the Children's Museum of Houston. This event recognized outstanding after-school programs, site coordinators, and community partners for their work with students around the Houston area. LaKeisha LeBlanc, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Dr. Patricia Glaeser, Director of Federal Programs, and Daisy Torres, Federal Programs Administrative Assistant, attended the event to represent this innovative after-school program..
MasterMinds is an innovative after-school program incorporating instructional support and exposure to new skills and experiences. Students have had the opportunity to learn everything from Guitar to cooking, and gardening to forensic science. They have built lemonade stands through an entrepreneurship class, and have built their own computer games in coding class. This after-school model has given staff members from all over the district, along with volunteers, the opportunity to share their special skills, talents, and passions with the district's elementary students.
This summer, the district will be offering a MasterMinds Elementary Summer School Program. The program is open to all elementary students in the district and surrounding areas. The program will be held at McGhee Elementary School. Families can choose from one of two sessions: Session 1 (Monday–Thursday) June 2 – 12, 2025, or Session 2 (Monday–Thursday) June 16 – June 26, 2025 (District Holiday June 19th). Program Hours: 7:45 am – 3:30 pm (students MUST attend the whole day). To enroll your student, please click the link: https://forms.gle/U7aopViiBg7ZUhtcA
